Job Description

Principal, Revenue Recognition – Technical Accounting

 

As part of Sabre’s Technical Accounting team, you will take on interesting and challenging responsibilities which include revenue recognition for complex contracts with customers, engaging in transaction advisory as it relates to customers and related vendors, interpreting and applying regulatory pronouncements, and best-in-class technical writing. The key to success in this position is timely and accurate recognition of revenue in accordance with US GAAP and effectively communicating complex accounting concepts to non-CPAs.

You will report to the Director of Corporate and Technical Accounting. The team is made up of collaborative, diligent, and diverse professionals that seek to support our corporate and business partners with the timely technical answers they need to drive value for stakeholders while upholding Sabre’s values.

You will have the opportunity to interact with a broad and diverse group of corporate and business partners: Finance, Supplier Commerce, Segment Accounting, Legal, External Reporting, Tax, Internal Audit, and Senior Management.

Responsibilities of the Principal, Revenue Recognition – Technical Accounting include:

  • Account for significant, complex contracts with customers in accordance with US GAAP
  • Document assessments and conclusions as it relates to revenue recognition beyond auditor reproach
  • Collaborate with segment accounting teams to timely and accurately record revenue transactions
  • Advise customer deal teams on issues concerning revenue recognition in accordance with US GAAP
  • Own, maintain, and enforce Sabre’s revenue recognition policy and policy for establishing standalone selling prices
  • Supervise a senior technical accountant as it relates to revenue recognition duties
  • Assist in reviewing footnotes and other required disclosures for our quarterly and annual filings with the SEC as related to the areas of revenue recognition, critical accounting estimates, accounting policies, debt, derivatives, goodwill and intangibles, fair value, and leases.
  • Assist with various special projects as needed.

Job Requirements

Education & Certifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting required
  • CPA license required

 

Required Experience & Skills:

  • Approximately seven (7) years of experience, of which, several years at a “big 4” firm or comparable professional service firm are strongly preferred.
  • Experience with researching and accounting for non-routine, complex accounting transactions in accordance with US GAAP, including the preparation of technical memorandums that concisely document analyses and conclusions.
  • Experience with revenue recognition in accordance with ASC 606 is preferred, especially if related to the technology industry (i.e. SaaS, license of intellectual property, etc.)
  • Excellent verbal and truly exceptional written communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with both the ambition and willingness to dive into the details necessary to accomplish responsibilities and solve problems.
  • Experience with accounting and financial reporting in accordance with US GAAP, including the preparation and/or review of financial statements and footnotes
  • Ability to successfully manage multiple projects with competing priorities and tight deadlines
  • Strong organizational and time management skills /ability to continually prioritize workload and respond to top priorities with a sense of urgency.
