Director - Travel Network Strategy & Planning

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Director Strategy & Planning will assume a strategic role in the overall growth and success of Sabre’s largest business unit (Travel Network revenue is ~$2.5B).  Travel Network delivers the mission critical technology that allows airlines, hoteliers, and other travel providers to distribute their inventory across channels such as online and corporate travel agencies.

Reporting to the VP of Strategy & Planning, this position will be responsible for assisting in designing, implementing, and maintaining the long-term growth strategy for Travel Network and Sabre more broadly. 

YOUR WORKSTREAMS WOULD LOOK LIKE THIS:

 

  • Pan-Sabre product strategy: Lead a team of ~12 strategy resources from across functions and business units to identify and prioritize the major product capabilities that Sabre will need to bring to market over the next 2 – 5 years.  Develop initial hypothesis on product focus areas.  Direct secondary research and interview ~50 C-level executives across key customer segments to test hypothesis.  Finalize priority areas for investment and manage ~15 technology resources to scope the effort to develop capabilities.  Develop commercial model framework and investment return profile.  Share your recommendations with Executive Chairman, CEO, CFO, and business unit Presidents in regular Steering Committee updates while beginning to deliver proof-of-concept products in parallel.

 

  • Hotel distribution full-potential: Work closely with President and SVP Hotel of Travel Network to deliver a recommendation on how to prioritize focus and investment to drive our hotel distribution business to reach its full-potential.  Lead a team of 3 strategy resources to frame and test the impediments to the business reaching its potential.  Get creative in bringing data to an opaque business by running experiments, testing ideas, and surveying customers.  Identify strategic partners and run business development discussions with strategy and operational leaders outside of Sabre.  Drive the investment and implementation plan to realize business’s full-potential.   

 

  • Capital allocation: Under the RAPID decision framework the Travel Network Strategy team is the sole owner of the “Recommendation” on how to allocate capital across Travel Network.  Balancing “Input” on near term customer needs and longer term strategic initiatives deliver investment allocation recommendation to President Travel Network who will “Decide“ on the capital allocation. 

Job Requirements

EDUCATION:

  • An undergraduate degree in an area of rigorous study is required. An MBA is preferred, but not required.  

CANDIDATE PROFILE:

  • 5-8 years of relevant experience including a successful track record of developing and implementing business strategy, financial modeling and analysis, competitive analysis and business planning
  • Experience with a top-tier strategy consulting firm 
  • Uncompromising integrity, character and intellectual honesty; one who strives to do the right thing and deliver quality results; an executive with the courage and conviction to speak their position
  • Financially astute business leader with sound decision making, strategic acumen, process improvement and analytical problem solving capabilities
  • Strong executive presence and previous experience relating to key customers and articulating company direction, plans and approach, both in one-on-one environments and presenting to larger groups  
  • Ability to think strategically and communicate effectively with all levels of management, with the capability to guide, educate and influence the thinking of senior decision makers
  • Strong internal and external relationship-building and negotiation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work with ambiguity and complex strategic analysis projects
  • Previous experience with large, geographically-dispersed, multi-functional organizations
