SRE Director

Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) applies software engineering techniques and discipline to production operations to improve reliability and ensure levels of performance that keep customers happy.  This SRE leadership role focuses on ensuring the consistency, reliability, elimination of toil and improving time to market of software releases and database administration / database reliability engineering to production and non-production environments for the Hospitality Solutions business unit of Sabre.  This SRE leadership role also includes continuous improvement to tools that enable release engineering and SRE to automate as much as possible and eliminate toil, provide clear SLI/SLO dashboards, provide robust situational awareness for internal and enterprise customer via dashboards, and intelligent alerting to Level 1 support (OCC). 

 What you will do?
•    Lead Release Engineering, Database Administration/DBRE, Monitoring and Deployment tools 
•    Ensure DB teams maintain compliance and represent team during security audits  
•    Inspire engagement and creativity
•    Foster teams’ growth
•    Mentor team members
•    Monitor processes and propose necessary changes to processes
•    Guide the teams through project implementation
•    Oversee application activities and customer inquiries
•    Evolve our maturity around workload and team capacity management.

 

 
Responsibilities:
•    Lead the evolution of the teams while adopting mature SRE practices/
•    Manage projects to develop automation and processes to enable teams to deploy, manage, configure, scale, and monitor their applications in AWS and GCP 
•    Actively participate in high level team activities such as suggesting architecture improvements, recommending process improvements, and conducting tool evaluations
•    Help solve business needs with technology by evaluating different technology options and vendor products
•    System troubleshooting and problem solving across platform and application domains - will be expected to participate in on-call escalations to troubleshoot customer facing issues.
•    Hands on investigation and act as an engineer as needed.
•    Takes ownership of end-to-end project and act as a delivery manager.

 

Job Requirements

Required Work experience:
 
•    Experience leading operational teams, and leading teams through transformation programs
•    Technical background working in large scale infrastructures.
•    Experience supporting and participating on Production incident resolution teams.
•    Unix or Windows expertise background. Mainly support applications running on one of this OS.
•    Experience with software configuration management and release engineering
•    Experience managing Database Administrators 
•    Comfortable with Agile methodologies and working closely within small teams, and with remote teammates
•    Change management experience
•    Working knowledge of monitoring systems 
•    High level networking and load balancing knowledge. 
•    Solid understanding of high availability, high performance, multi-data center systems and hybrid cloud environments
•    Experience with version control systems such as Git or SVN
•    Experience leading teams who provide a mix of Operational work and Engineering work including development of support applications. 
Desired Work Experience
 
•    Experience on GCP and Terraform.
•    Experience writing SLI/SLOs and defining Error budgets.
