Team Description




The Platform and Architecture Group is looking for a talented Principal Software Engineer to join our Connectivity Systems Team.  Our group supports a number of High-Performance systems that are the backbone of Sabre's Business.  Processing an impressive number of transactions per second, our systems are built to support high traffic rates while providing fast response times.  These are exciting times for us, as we make progress towards migrating our systems to Google's Cloud Platform.  If you are curious about High-End technology with an immediate impact on people's lives, we have a place for YOU! 


What you will achieve:


•  Support all stages of software development including requirements, design, coding, test, delivery, maintenance, and support.
•  Work with other engineers and architects to understand desired application capabilities, business requirements, and technical challenges and how to translate them into software, using Agile methodologies.
•  Triage technical issues and assist with the resolution. Respond to suggestions for improvements and enhancements.
•  May assist in development of software technical documentation.
•  Provide on demand support to Production systems.

Must have skills: 

• Write multi-threaded low-level Java applications, without using any frameworks, with a priority on performance and stability. Can tune/troubleshoot low level Java issues (such as GC algorithms). If needed, will debug an application using the original Java JDK source code.
• Be able to deliver consistent results with minimal supervision.
• Can code without a complete requirements document.
• Ability to understand how complex systems interact with each other, to pinpoint potential or actual issues. Can troubleshoot production issues in real-time, being able to quickly troubleshoot logs (both from the application and Linux). 
• Can translate technical concepts to both a development team and a non-technical audience.

Nice to Have Skills:

• Working knowledge of distributed cache solutions.
• Advanced PERL and BASH scripting skills. Solid understanding of how Linux OS works.
• Can communicate with other teams efficiently, both orally and in writing.
• Good regular expressions understanding, being able to detect potential performance issues.
• Excellent understanding of TCP/IP networking. Be able to troubleshoot connectivity issues, explaining what needs to happen to have that issue fixed.
• Good SQL skills, being able to run efficient and accurate queries on huge datasets.
•  Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform is highly desirable.


 Education:   Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering
